CIDDL is Going to San Antonio!

Authors: Yerin Seung; info@ciddl.org

CIDDL is preparing to head to the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC)'s Annual Convention in San Antonio from March 13th to 16th. This convention provides special education personnel (e.g., teachers, administrators, and related service providers) professional development through interactive sessions grounded in application to students with disabilities. It is a fantastic event that brings special education professionals together to “learn, share, grow, and connect,” and we look forward to connecting with you in person!

The CIDDL team is bringing research and practice with technology and innovation to the conference through demonstrations in the Tech Playground, sessions focusing on technology integration and artificial intelligence, and an AI-focused town hall. Below, we will share the various sessions hosted by the CIDDL team. RSVP to them through our community and on the convention’s Whova app!

Presentation Sessions: Bring Artificial Intelligence to Your Education Setting

The Center for Innovation, Design, and Digital Learning (CIDDL) supports special education faculty capacity, use, and innovation in educational technology. As the demand for skilled and adaptable professionals rises, learn key considerations and practical tips for integrating AI into personnel preparation programs. Discuss the issues around integrating AI into personnel preparation, emphasizing the potential for improved efficiency, effectiveness, and individualized skill development. Resources will be shared for enhancing your use of AI in your personnel and leadership preparation programs.

Join the Center for Innovation, Design, and Digital Learning (CIDDL.org) as we explore artificial intelligence (AI) solutions and discuss the appropriateness of usage. CIDDL team members will guide individuals in making informed decisions about incorporating AI in K-12 settings. By presenting a balanced discussion of the benefits and challenges, CIDDL aims to guide educators in making informed, ethically sound decisions about integrating AI technologies into various aspects of the K-12 setting.

  • Artificial Intelligence, Workforce, and Considerations in Special Education (March 14, 2024, 10:30 am - 11:30 am in 205)

What is artificial intelligence (AI)? How will AI transform the workforce and landscape of special education? Discuss how AI is influencing education and special education. Presenters will highlight considerations to foster responsible and inclusive AI adoption in special education settings with a focus on workforce, policy, and the emerging landscape of practice. Resources and connections for continuous engagement will be provided.

  • Townhall: Collaborative Conversation on Artificial Intelligence in Special Education (March 15, 2024 8:00 am - 9:00 am in 217C)

With a growing emphasis on personalized learning and inclusive practices, AI technologies present unique opportunities and challenges for students with diverse learning needs. The Center for Innovation, Design, and Digital Learning (CIDDL) delves into the collaborative efforts among educators, researchers, and stakeholders to harness the potential of AI in addressing the individualized requirements of special education. By examining current applications, case studies, and technology initiatives, this town hall seeks to communicate the evolving landscape of AI in special education. This conversation on AI in special education aims to guide educators, researchers, and policymakers toward a more inclusive, adaptive, and ethically grounded integration of AI technologies in the learning experiences of students with disabilities.

Join the Center for Innovation, Design, and Digital Learning (CIDDL.org) to learn about engaging parents and families with artificial intelligence (AI). CIDDL team members will discuss the emerging trends, latest tools, tips, and considerations on AI as it relates to parents and families supporting students with disabilities. The discussion encompasses the ethical, educational, and sociocultural dimensions of incorporating AI tools within family contexts. From privacy concerns to the potential benefits of personalized learning experiences, this conversation navigates the intricate landscape of AI integration in family life.  Free resources will be provided.

Learn About AI at Our Booth: Ask the AI Expert

Come Play in the Tech Playground!

This year in Tech Playground, we offer Technology Blitzes exploring how to use AI and other cutting-edge technologies in the educational setting. These 10-minute blitzes will focus on technology tools and tips you can implement in your classrooms tomorrow. These will be short presentations with step-by-step explanations and experiences where attendees will learn examples of how technology is implemented. We will highlight technology integration in modern society, such as AI and virtual reality (VR). Some of the topics on AI are to support lesson planning, reading, writing, math, creating slideshows, paraprofessionals, personnel prep, and parents and families. We will also show how VR can benefit teacher coaching and social skills. In addition, we will introduce several useful tools for feedback, executive functioning, video creation, and storyboarding. Check out these innovative technologies and learn to bring them to your classrooms!
