CIDDL Office Hours: What are you Reading, Watching, and Listening to Learn about AI?

On May 27, 2025, CIDDL hosted a summer-themed Office Hours session centered around a deceptively simple yet essential question: What are you reading, watching, and listening to Learn about AI? As AI continues to reshape education, the CIDDL community gathered to share their favorite podcasts, articles, tools, and personal habits for keeping up with the rapidly evolving field. Facilitated by Dr. James Basham, Dr. Katie Tuck, and the CIDDL team, this session offered a wide-ranging collection of resources that participants can explore throughout the summer and beyond.
From Podcasts to Practice: Staying Informed About AI
Dr. Basham opened the session by reflecting on a question he once posed early in his career: How do you stay on top of everything in the field? The answer, he shared, came not from sticking strictly to special education literature but by looking outward to fields like computer science and media technology. This multidisciplinary approach shaped the day’s conversation and provided a roadmap for how educators can meaningfully engage with AI content from various sources.

The session featured several curated resources, recommended by CIDDL team members and attendees, that are already shaping AI discussions in education:
- Tech News & Podcasts (Dr. James Basham)
Dr. Basham highlighted three go-to resources from the TWiT Network, including This Week in Tech, MacBreak Weekly, and Intelligent Machines, the latter of which offers weekly interviews with AI developers. These tech-centered programs provide insight into broader trends, which Jamie translates into actionable ideas for the education community.
- NotebookLM & AI-Generated Podcasts (Dr. Angelica Fulchini Scruggs)
Dr. Fulchini Scruggs shared her experience using NotebookLM and the “Deep Dive” podcasts. Deep Dive is a podcast series entirely generated by artificial intelligence, utilizing Google's NotebookLM platform. The show features two AI-generated hosts engaging in conversational discussions on a range of topics, including technology, science, philosophy, and current events. These episodes are crafted without human intervention, showcasing the capabilities of AI in content creation. Deep Dive represents a significant step in AI-generated content, offering listeners a unique blend of information and innovation. If you're interested in exploring how AI can transform traditional media formats, this podcast is a compelling example. - International & Ethical Perspectives (Dr. Kathleen Tuck)
Dr. Tuck introduced two insightful podcasts: the AI in Education Podcast, an international program led by educators from Microsoft Australia and InnovateGPT, and Women and Tech: Ethical AI from Indiana University, which explores AI through the lens of ethics, equity, and interdisciplinary practice.
- Conference & Global Trends (Cheryl Lemke)
Cheryl spotlighted archived sessions from the Stanford HAI Education Summit and encouraged participants to follow the ISTE AI Hub. With ISTE Live 25 approaching this summer, Cheryl and the CIDDL team reminded attendees to look out for sessions that bridge emerging technologies and teaching strategies for all learners.
- Weekly Global Updates
The team also recommended following Jody Britten’s Medium posts, which provide weekly summaries of AI developments in education worldwide. These updates often include links to international policy initiatives, such as those from UNESCO, keeping readers informed about the global AI education landscape.
- KU Summer AI Conference
Another highlight was the KU Summer AI Conference, hosted by the University of Kansas. While the opportunity to attend live has passed, recordings of the sessions will be made available on YouTube. This makes it an excellent resource to revisit for those interested in how educators are engaging with AI at the intersection of policy, practice, and innovation.
Looking Ahead: Summer Learning with CIDDL
As summer unfolds, CIDDL plans to release additional learning playlists, podcast lists, and blog posts to help educators continue their AI learning journeys. Participants were encouraged to revisit last year’s CIDDL Summer Listen List and explore CIDDL’s Framework for Responsible AI Integration in PreK–20 Education for local implementation planning.
This Office Hours session reaffirmed that staying informed about AI doesn’t require technical expertise. Instead, it calls for curiosity, community, and consistency. By reading, listening, and watching with intention, educators can remain proactive and reflective about the evolving role of AI in education.
