WWDC25 Unveiled: Apple’s New Design, AI, and Accessibility for Classrooms

This June at WWDC25, Apple unveiled its next-generation software cycle of iOS 26, iPadOS 26, macOS Tahoe, watchOS 26, tvOS 26, and visionOS 26, all wrapped in a unified “Liquid Glass” design of translucent panels, rounded corners, and fluid animations intended to simplify interactions and direct focus to content. Alongside this visual overhaul, Apple emphasized privacy-preserving and on-device intelligence, all with a commitment to a seamless ecosystem that balances cutting-edge features with user control.
What’s New: Design and Intelligence
Apple’s Liquid Glass redesign spans every platform, bringing dynamic layering, depth effects, and consistent styling across core apps like Messages and Photos to create a more intuitive user experience. Apple Intelligence also now powers Live Translate in Phone, Messages, and FaceTime, enabling real-time translations entirely on the device. Additionally, iOS 16 introduces voicemail summaries and a “Workout Buddy” on Apple Watch, all designed to streamline daily tasks while keeping personal data local.
Device and Productivity Enhancements
On the iPad, iPadOS 26 is going to have a persistent menu bar, live folders in the dock, and true windowed multitasking with resizable, draggable app windows, bringing a Mac-style productivity boost without sacrificing the touch screen interactions. On macOS Tahoe, the Phone app is available natively, allowing users to make and receive calls, view unified message histories, and access contacts directly from their desktops, eliminating the need for remote connections to their phone.
Embracing Accessibility
Most excitingly for us at CIDDL, Apple has expanded its accessibility suite. These additions include App Store “Accessibility Nutrition Labels” that highlight support for VoiceOver, Live Captions, Braille, and more, giving educators and families instant insight into an app’s accommodations. The new Mac Magnifier app, featuring Desk View, enables users with low vision to enlarge documents or whiteboards via any camera, empowering them to engage with real-world content. Meanwhile, Braille Access transforms Macs into full-featured note-takers, offering Nemeth math support and live captioning on braille displays. Along with these is Accessibility Reader, which offers customizable text layouts and text-to-speech designed for users with dyslexia or low vision.
Implications for Educators
These updates provide powerful tools for teacher preparation and special education programs. Nutrition Labels simplify the process of vetting digital resources for all learning needs, and hands-on labs with the Mac Magnifier and Accessibility Reader provide future educators with practical experience in designing materials for all learners. Furthermore, on-device Live Translate and built-in captions give easy strategies for communicating with multilingual or Deaf and hearing-impaired students, enabling teacher-training programs to incorporate real-world simulations of classrooms for all learner scenarios.
